Increasing the motivation of my employees
Motivation is an important part of performance. Motivated teams will be more productive and are far more likely to "go the extra mile" to delight customers.
So, how do you motivate your teams?
- Provide clarity over what the business expects in real detail over their performance standards covering processes, behaviours and values
- Keep reinforcing your expectations and feeding back how they are doing - encourage regular and consistent feedback from managers and peers
- Give recognition and reward where it is due and avoid false praise - ensure any reward is viewed collectively as objective and fits the individual’s performance
- Regularly monitor internal motivation levels with short sharp surveys - regular snapshot analysis is more effective than unwieldy annual or bi annual surveys which do not reflect your ever changing world
